Google is introducing an enhanced update guarantee with the Pixel 8 series, but not all questions were answered until recently.
It was already leaked that the new Google cell phones will have a good update guarantee. It should cover a significantly longer period. As a reminder: previously (from the Pixel 6) new Android versions were only guaranteed for three years and new security updates for five years.
First it was revealed that Google has now committed itself to seven years. But the information was vague. Because it wasn’t clear whether this meant just security updates or new Android versions and feature drops. People find the last two points particularly exciting.
Are our wildest hopes finally coming true and has Google made huge improvements to the update guarantee it has in store for us? With the launch of new devices, the necessary answers are finally available. Starting with the Pixel 8 series, Google is promising seven years of new updates, “including Android operating system upgrades, security updates and regular feature drops.”
Google is putting the entire Android industry under huge pressure
This is the best update guarantee ever and sometimes even surpasses political demand. A very big and important step. The only question today is whether this guarantee will be available for all future devices. We’re thinking of the Pixel 8a, which will be significantly cheaper. But I’m in good spirits.
Now I am very interested to see if popular brands like Samsung will respond. After all, Google is slowly taking market share away from market leaders in some countries. We still have a long way to go, but movement is needed at Samsung. And what Xiaomi currently guarantees may be similar to Samsung, but far from Google Pixel now.
