There have been some rumblings recently, one rumor in particular, about a possible “mid-gen” upgrade PS5 Pro. While there has been no official confirmation on this yet, it has generated a lot of conversation about the need (or not) for such improvements for both consumers and developers.
However, at least for CEO of Take twoStrauss Zelnik, mid-gen buffs don’t impress much.
In a conversation before the release of the results of the first quarter Take twoZelnick said the need for a mid-gen console upgrade “depends a lot on what the mid-gen upgrade looks like.”
“Generally speaking, mid-gen improvements haven’t changed much,” he said, later reiterating that such improvements were “not significant.”
And he confirmed that they don’t change the way he thinks about making or selling games from a publisher’s perspective. It’s no wonder Zelnik feels this way, especially in this generation. Historically, like mid-gen upgrades PS4 Pro And Xbox One X They’ve focused heavily on graphical and storage improvements, both of which are nice for consumers but don’t really have much of an impact on how developers or publishers make games. And in this particular generation, the market is dealing with a slowdown in new consoles due to a shortage of now-discontinued chips and relatively strong support for previous generations.
Zelnik also spoke about the rumors of a successor switch, and while he didn’t have much to say, he noted that the publisher would “almost certainly” be an early proponent of such a console. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption II has sold more than 55 million units and NBA2K23 has sold over 13 million.
In total, the company posted net bookings for the quarter of $1.2 billion (up 20% year-over-year) and is preparing to launch three “immersive core games” this year, with an even bigger launch year coming soon. FY 2025, which surprised many people GTA VI It is imminent

Editor’s note: I’m not a fan of mid-gen consoles, especially since they come near the end of the lifecycle of consoles that are actually “improved”. On the other hand, in this particular situation, there are still people who are only getting by in the current generation because of scarcity than when it started.
