A few days ago we made a critical comment about “Watch Unlock”, as this feature was announced in January 2023 and is still not available today. But things are starting to look better, with a new video showing the settings in action. Is the function finally coming?
This video can prove that UWB is still not a minimum requirement. Which all the more clearly raises the question of why the feature took so long to come. What remains unchanged: A Wear OS smartwatch can unlock your smartphone, for which Watch Unlock.
This requires the watch to be unlocked, on your arm and close to your phone If you can’t or don’t want to unlock your phone any other way, it’s enough if you briefly move the devices towards each other or if they are very close to each other.

What is still missing is a specific date for the new Watch Unlock. But I’m hopeful because the new Pixel Watch 2 and Wear OS 4 with Android 14 are coming.
