A little wet fingers and using a smartphone becomes torture. OnePlus couldn’t take it anymore.
Chinese company OnePlus has announced that its new smartphone model Ace 2 Pro will be equipped with a rainproof display. According to OnePlus, the display can also be operated in heavy rain or fog without any issues, without any input you didn’t want to do.
In a promotional video, OnePlus shows the Ace 2 Pro compared to an iPhone 14 Pro. While rain on the iPhone caused glitches and delays in operation, according to OnePlus, the Ace 2 Pro responded perfectly. This is made possible by a special chipset and algorithm used to optimize the display and touch functions
Of course, the video makes a convincing impression, even if a test under real conditions is still pending. If the feature works as promised, it will be a real innovation in the smartphone market. So far, touchscreen operation in the rain has often been problematic, even with waterproof smartphones – I’ve noticed this repeatedly with my iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The Ace 2 Pro has now been launched in China and features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This hardware arms race does not apply to all sides in the absence of wireless charging and an IP certificate for the 5,000 mAh battery (which is somewhat ironic for a water-resistant screen).
Since OnePlus and Oppo are already thin from the German market in the wake of the patent dispute with Nokia, we can only hope that the screen will end up elsewhere or that other manufacturers will be inspired by what I believe is a real innovation. .
