Citizen is temporarily halting sales of its second-generation CZ smartwatch due to “technical issues.” The Wear OS watch, launched in May, has a feature based on IBM and NASA’s Watson technology to track a person’s alertness.
The decision seems to stem from negative experiences from reviewers. Michael Fisher – better known as MrMobile on YouTube – noted that Citizen announced it would stop selling the watch after contacting the company about a number of issues with the watch. This has been confirmed wired the storyWhereas reviewer Julian Chokkattu described a number of bugs such as a slow screen, poor battery life, inaccurate tracking and a watch face that doesn’t even tell the correct time.
“We are investigating the issue, recalling the evaluation forms, and will temporarily stop selling the touchscreen model while we determine the cause of the issue and the best course of action for our customers and partners,” Citizen wrote in an email to reviewers. Including yours truly.

I just started testing the second generation Citizen CZ Smart last week and can confirm that my experience has been similar to Fisher, Chokkattu and similar. 9to5Google. In fact, I was in the process of writing a troubleshooting email because I thought I had a floor unit. On several outdoor runs I tracked, I couldn’t find a GPS signal, got stuck in the middle of a workout, and ended up not recording the workout. A two-mile run I recorded earlier this week ran 0.1 miles at about 93 minutes per mile. (I’m not the fastest runner, but I’m not either The Also slowly.)
Screens regularly freeze, crash or fail to register swipe gestures. Yesterday I opened the watch charger which was 100 percent charged at noon and at 10:30 pm it was down to 6 percent. Also, I had a lot of trouble syncing my data because the watch couldn’t maintain a connection with my phone – even when they were right next to each other.
It has worsened in the last two-three days. My watch initially had a lazy screen, but at least I was able to access menus and receive notifications with some reliability. Now I can’t even do that – it almost felt like I was experiencing Wear OS in 2016.
Last time I can remember a smartwatch had this many problems One Plus watch – but this was a pre-production model. In this case, it’s also somewhat surprising since the second-gen CZ Smart comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 chip, which we’ve seen in other OS 3 smartwatches like the Fossil Gen 6. In the end, it’s good that the Citizen is on sale. temporary What is less good is this Lots of disgruntled citizen customers A similar problem was reported three months ago.
I reached out to Citizen for more details on how to contact existing customers again, how long the suspension will last and technical issues, but did not receive an immediate response.
