With just a few weeks left until the launch of the Pixel 8 series, Google has discontinued the Pixel Pass subscription and closed it to new customers.
In conjunction with the launch of the Pixel 6 series, Google has started offering an all-in-one subscription that includes your favorite Pixel phone, Preferred Care protection, Google One cloud storage, YouTube Premium, Google Play Pass and (optional) Fi. Combined Wireless Service. For the right customer, the Pixel Pass plans, which started at $45, were solid deals and offered a decent discount on packages. However, Pixel Pass was only available in the US.
However, it seems that Google has not found enough suitable customers. In a shared ad New support pageGoogle has confirmed that the Pixel Pass subscription will end on August 29, 2023. The company emphasizes its focus on “providing the best value for money” and “flexibility” for customers.
We focus on providing the best value for our hardware products and giving users the flexibility to purchase services of their choice Going forward, we’ll continue to rank offerings based on customer feedback and give them different ways to access the best that Google has to offer.
It’s important to note that the main change today is that it’s no longer possible to buy a new phone with the Pixel Pass bundle. Existing subscribers will not be affected by the daily changes and active subscriptions will continue as usual until the end of the biennium.
As an existing subscriber, you may continue your existing Pixel Pass subscription for two years from the shipping date of your Pixel Pass. After the two-year period ends, you can’t upgrade to a new phone with Pixel Pass.
Also, several 9to5Google Readers let us know that Google is offering customers a $100 Google Store credit for active Pixel Pass subscribers. (Thanks, Rob and Kevin!)
As a thank you for your subscription, we’ll add $100 Google Store Credit to your account. It is valid for two years and can be used for any Google Store purchase. To view your balance, log in to your Google Store account and visit the Settings page.
Notably, existing Pixel Pass subscribers will still get a discounted price on Google Play Pass, Google One, YouTube Premium and WiFi Wireless, all of which will continue to automatically renew after paying for the phone.
At the end of the two-year term, you own your Pixel phone and it’s fully paid for. Your preferred care (Google Store) or device protection agreement (Google Fi Wireless) ends.
To maintain uninterrupted service, included Google subscriptions (Google One, YouTube Premium and Google Play Pass) continue to renew each month until canceled. You will be billed monthly for Google One, YouTube Premium, and Google Play Pass at the discounted rate shown in the email you received on September 29, 2023 (Subject: Important Pixel Pass Update).
Using a Pixel Pass for Google Fi Wireless also ends the $5 service discount on your Google Fi Wireless plan.
However, if you don’t want to keep these subscriptions, you can cancel them individually or individually at the end of two years. Google will send you a notification before this happens
You’ll be notified by email when your two-year Pixel Pass is nearing its end. These notices provide information about your options for purchasing a new device and canceling or continuing included Google services at the end of the term
As before, you still have the option to opt out of Pixel Pass early by paying the remaining price of your Pixel phone.
Interestingly, Google announced the end of Pixel Pass less than two months before the expected launch of the Pixel 8 series. However, the closure isn’t too surprising since neither the Pixel 7a nor the Pixel Fold are offered through Pixel Pass.
