It rarely happens, but every now and then software updates take a step back. With the Pixel Watch, Google has obviously refined the charging process, and not necessarily for the better. But why?
The first Google Pixel Watch was able to charge 50 percent in 30 minutes. After about 80 minutes, the battery is fully charged again. However, since the latest software update, loading now takes a bit longer, as according to 9to5Google it now takes 50 percent and 45 minutes to fully load. The smartwatch takes 110 minutes to full.
Surprisingly, the new Google Pixel Watch 2 retains the original scheduled loading time and therefore loads less quickly than its predecessor. According to Google, it takes just under 75 minutes to fully charge the smartwatch.
Charges slowly from one day to the next…
Why this change is occurring is unclear. Google might want to give the new Pixel Watch 2 a little edge. The 9to5Google team tried to follow-up with Google but didn’t get a clear answer back. Google only confirmed that the update changed the load time without specifying the reason.
Interestingly, Google is ditching wireless charging for the second generation of smartwatches and instead using the pin on the back. This could be related to the heat generated by the watch’s wireless charging. Furthermore, it should be noted that last year’s Pixel Watch Still available for purchase in the Google Store Yes, but with an 80 euro discount. Although the price of the model has been reduced, the Pixel Watch 2’s hardware upgrades, especially the new Snapdragon W5 chip, seem to justify the higher price.
