“Cities: Skylines 2 is a next-gen title and definitely has some hardware requirements,” the publisher wrote. “Although our team has worked tirelessly to deliver the best possible experience, we have not achieved the quality we strive for.”
However, instead of delaying the release of the PC version to coincide with the revised console launch window, Paradox will go ahead with release next week as planned. “We’re still thinking about the long-term of the project, so releasing now is the best way forward,” he explained. “We are proud of the gameplay and unique features of Cities: Skylines 2 and we strongly believe that it provides a great experience that you will enjoy.”
Paradox insists it will “continually improve the game over the coming months” but says it wants to “manage performance expectations” for next week’s release. He added: “Our goal is for as many players as possible to enjoy Cities: Skylines 2, and we’re committed to making sure it reaches its full potential.”
Additionally, the publisher announced that it will drop Steam Workshop support for mods in favor of its own Paradox Mods platform, which it says will be available on consoles and PC. “For console users, this means you can access resource mode in the library,” Paradox wrote. “We know this is a big part of the cities: skyline experience, and we’re excited to deliver a solution that makes that available to everyone.”
Cities: Skylines 2 launches on October 24th for PC and is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
