Square Enix brings an RPG classic back to life: “Star Ocean: The Second Story R” is now available as a digital version for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam. This new version of the 1998 cult game “Star Ocean: The Second Story” offers fans and new players modern 2.5D graphics, a revised soundtrack and numerous gameplay improvements.
The creators took fan feedback to heart: “The enthusiasm of fans from all over the world was overwhelming,” said Kei Komaki, the game’s producer. “We broke new ground in the development of ‘Star Ocean: The Second Story R’ and always honored the original.”
In STAR OCEAN: THE SECOND STORY R, players control the characters Claude and Reyna, each living their own story in an adventure-filled universe. Decisions affect the course of the story and which allies join the party. The game features fast, real-time combat, an extensive skill system, and the ability to deepen relationships with team members through individual actions that lead to different endings.

A free demo is available for those who want to try the game first, whose progress can be carried over to the main game. “STAR OCEAN: The Second Story R” features both Japanese and English voiceovers and will also receive German, French, Italian and Spanish subtitles through an update.
