Luckily they didn’t decide to copy the new action button.
It is not without reason that there are new complaints against Samsung, as the manufacturer seems to be taking its cues from Apple again. Two innovations are practically confirmed for the new Galaxy S24 Ultra, and it makes you sit up and take notice when you take a look at the iPhone 15 Pro Max released in the fall of 2023.
Apple has integrated a telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom for the first time. This might be seen as a disadvantage compared to Samsung’s 10x telephoto camera, but it’s not. Apple backs this zoom by saying that significantly more light can reach the image sensor and stabilization is better. What is Samsung doing? On the S24 Ultra you switch from 10x to 5x for the second telephoto camera.
Samsung lays its own eggs. First they wanted to “show off” with a 10x camera and now Samsung has to back down because such a large optical zoom is hardly practical in everyday life and competitors use a better solution. 10x can easily be achieved using software, as seen, for example, with Google’s Pixel smartphones.
Problem: It now seems very clear that Samsung is not targeting Google, but iPhone, as Google is using 5x zoom for the second year in a row and 4x zoom before that.
Samsung makes rather unfavorable decisions for new top smartphones
Another point is the choice of material for housing. In recent years, plastic, aluminum and stainless steel have been the first choices of most smartphone manufacturers, but the iPhone 15 uses titanium. And another coincidence means that Samsung is also switching to titanium for the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
On these points, I fully agree with colleagues and critics that Samsung is once again acting like a copycat. Even if, for example, you can initially run away from the iPhone with various exciting AI functions, the mentioned points will overshadow the new Galaxy flagships, and in my opinion rightly so.
