However, we often don’t look back [Chole Albanesisu] inside Computer Magazine I did it and wrote it Technology death for all technology tools and services that are dead Last year. Some of the entries are quite predictable: Twitter is dead and replaced by X, which is the same thing, just different. We haven’t noticed any other cases, such as Netflix stopping DVD distribution.
Google Glass is dead again, this time the Enterprise Edition. Amazon is ignoring financial donations through Kindle purchases and print subscriptions.
Glass wasn’t Google’s only victim. Gmail lost its original HTML version and discontinued its Jamboard smartboard product. They also sold their internet business to focus on core business. Google’s other notable shutdowns include Usenet support for popular podcast apps and groups. And don’t forget the experience of offering Pixel phones as a subscription. It’s done too.
As you might expect, PC Magazine’s list is somewhat consumer-oriented. What hacker-focused products and services disappeared this year and will you miss them? Sculpture market? XYZ will print? Startups are collapsing at an alarming rate in 2023, but you haven’t heard of most of them. Was there anything you were particularly disappointed about? Let us know your comments.
