Samsung probably doesn’t want to get involved in something that initially costs money and brings nothing.
Apple started rolling out satellite features on its iPhone 14 and since then we have been waiting for similar features to roll out in the Android ecosystem. What was supposed to launch with Android 14 has been delayed. Google has yet to deliver anything on its Pixel series. Bad news for Samsung now.
Apparently the South Korean manufacturer has now canceled the planned functions and the Galaxy S24 series will launch in January 2024 without the satellite function. Samsung has decided that there is no reason to rush the launch of the Galaxy S24 for technical and not practical reasons.
The function provided by Apple is one-way and allows only limited types of transfers An industry insider exclaimed etnews: “I understand that Samsung is preparing to install a satellite communications feature that will enable two-way service in its next-generation models.”
A proprietary version was planned for the Android ecosystem, on which several partners worked together, but then the project was canceled. As of now there is little chance that satellite functions, which can be especially practical and life-saving in emergency situations, will come to the Android world in the near future.
