Samsung’s The Frame TV has been a huge success in recent years because it fits the home more aesthetically than the matte black rectangle seen on traditional TVs. With a customizable frame (including stylish wood options), a matte display, and a huge collection of famous artwork displayed on the frame’s screen when it’s idle, it’s an interesting piece of design. Television is for people who don’t want their television to look like technology.
In 2024, Samsung will expand the Frame brand with the new Music Frame. This version is not actually a television; It is a music speaker. You can definitely think of it as a Samsung version of the Sonos/Ikea Symfonisk frame speakers. There is a physical print ahead. Samsung says it can be customized once the order goes online. (And yes, you can use Music Frame for surround sound if you want to use anti-glare OLEDs like Samsung’s new 2024 TVs.)
“The customizable speaker blends seamlessly with its surroundings masquerading as a modern picture frame that can display artwork or photos,” Samsung’s press release said. “It features built-in speakers and intelligent audio processing for a premium audio experience. Using Q-Symphony technology, it provides surround sound when paired with Samsung 2024 TVs and soundbars, or can function as a standalone wireless speaker.”
The company has yet to announce pricing information for the Music Frame — the Sonos/Ikea speaker costs $259.99 — but I expect Samsung’s new soundbar to ship alongside the rest of its new TV and home theater lineup starting in the spring.
