Nokia and HMD will part ways, but the future is just as bad.
Nokia is still trading as a Finnish company, but the brand has been sold for soulless mass-produced smartphones. There was hope that Nokia would become a real thing again under HMD Global, but in our view the thing died completely a few years ago.
HMD Global will let its contract with Nokia expire and no longer have trademark rights from 2025. Instead, there will be devices with the HMD logo and now one of these Android smartphones is appearing for the first time. But the design of the latest smartphone doesn’t change much, it remains boring and formal.
In my opinion, there is no reason to mourn the Nokia era under HMD Global and there is no reason to look forward to the future of HMD smartphones.
