Dungeonborne is an upcoming first-person PvPvE dungeon crawler built on Unreal Engine 5 that transports players into a dark fantasy world where you feel every sword strike as you slay monsters with power and magic. Dungeonborne combines dungeon crawling, extraction worlds and battle royale gameplay to spice things up and add a unique twist to the genre.
Starting February 2nd, you can experience Dungeonborne during the game’s open alpha as part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest!
If you’re looking for a new dungeon crawling experience, here are four top reasons why you shouldn’t miss it.
Dungeoneering is more than just a mindless dungeon crawler – you need to be able to think on your feet.
While at first glance Dungeonborne looks like a traditional dungeon crawler, there’s more to it than meets the eye. Whether you go into the Gothic depths alone or in a party with two friends, deadly traps and dark shadows await you around every corner. Don’t trust anything, try to use everything to your advantage. Find high ground and attack your enemies, trap them or even take the form of a treasure chest and wait for your enemies’ greed to betray them.
Sharp strategic intelligence, team building and understanding of the terrain are all critical to navigating this treacherous world to secure your treasure. Throughout the game, you’ll have to make some tough decisions: do you run away quickly and secure your loot, or do you stay behind and look for more power and risk losing everything in the process?
It’s the on-the-go decision-making introduced by the extraction mechanic that spices things up in Dungeonborn, along with a shrinking safe zone that often forces you to make tough decisions in the middle of combat. But winning is not the last standing. Your main goal is to get a section with cool loot that you can use later.
Master gothic dungeons with powerful classes and an elaborate combat system
Dungeonborne is heavily inspired by role-playing games and will feature numerous classes for players to master. While there are well-known fantasy archetypes like Fighter, Priest or Rogue, you can also pursue more specialized classes.
As a cryomancer, encase your enemies in ice or rain hellfire that opposes you when you take cover of the pyromancer. If you are a fan of necromancy or witchcraft, Dungeonborn is for you. Slip into the Death Knight’s boots, trap enemies with spectral chains and drain their life force.
Brutal dungeon combat rewards precision. Practice and master basic combat and parrying techniques, carefully manage your class abilities, and use the flask and potion systems to gain an advantage in battle. But be careful: the more you venture, the stronger the enemies become.
Party composition makes a big difference in Dungeonborne, so choose carefully when deciding who to adventure with. While the Dungeonborn open alpha will only feature human and zombie races, more options will become available as the game gets closer to launch.
It’s all about the loot – looting, crafting and upgrading to your heart’s content
After wresting victory from defeat, it’s time to collect your loot and prepare before heading back into battle. Once players return home, they can sell or raise their loot in the in-game auction house. Every piece of loot is important and has its place in the game, deepening the building process and giving you more options.
Dungeons and dungeons shine in the look of Unreal Engine 5
Dungeonborn’s dark gothic setting is brought to life in every detail thanks to the power of Unreal Engine 5. Immerse yourself in stereo sound that lets you hear every strike of a blade and every creak of a door that reveals your enemy’s location.
