Despite being delayed six times so far, Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot is so confident in Skull and Bones that he’s tempting fate and calling out the terrifying nickname “AAAA.” The last developer we can think of is the ill-fated Striking Distance Studio with The Callisto Protocol, a game with a sad ending.
Guillemot made the comments during a telephone Q&A session (thanks, VGC), which discussed the company’s sales in the third quarter of 2024 A knowledgeable caller suggested that Skull & Bones appears to be following a live service format (and recently released a first-year roadmap) and asked why Ubisoft insists on charging $70 when it’s free. A game model might be more appropriate.
Guillemot claims that the size, completeness, level of gloss and quality make it worth the $70 price tag, which is perhaps the most arrogant price we’ve seen from a CEO in recent memory. He proudly declared, “You will see that Skull and Bones is a complete game. This is a very big game and we think people will really see how deep and complete this game is. It’s a complete three-way… four-way game – it’s a game that will pay off in the long run.”
How Skull and Bones will fare in these uncharted waters remains to be seen, but the open beta will run this weekend ahead of the game’s full release on PS5 next week on February 16th. Either way, we won’t have to wait long to find out how true Guillemot’s claim is.
