For years now, many independent games that promise to be quality products have signed deals with Xbox and the game pass, Well, many of them came out for the platform on day one, with alliances to give them more exposure. However, it seems that new regulations have arrived, since at the time the agreement was made, at least with independent manufacturers, both will end Microsoft like in Epic Games.
In an interview Game Developers Conference Since last week in San Francisco, the developers behind Great Indies Spire and Darkest Dungeon kills They said some smaller developers have come to rely on the mechanism for financing in recent years, such as exclusives from Epic Game Store and Xbox Game Pass They are no longer what they were. It’s cut, canceled funding, conversations that lasted a year, everything has been canceled.
Here is what is referred to by Casey YanoCo-founder of the studioo Mega Crit:
I spoke to at least five small groups during GDC, like 35 members or less, and they said: cut, cut, cut, cancel funding, conversation that lasted a year, cancel. It looks like shit. We are certainly very convenient to be able to finance ourselves. Otherwise I would be very, very, very scared right now.
They also quoted Epic Games:
Also epic. The Gold Rush is over. I am from north west region. The town I came from was built on gold, and then they found diamonds further north. Perhaps another paradigm shift is in store for us, but I definitely think the scale of the deal I’ve heard about is significantly smaller than the Big Swing days. We definitely got our deal with Epic at the right time.
With that in mind, we can no longer see the choice Cuphead, with good ideas that can’t be funded because the developers aren’t big companies. Let us remember that many projects have taken shape due to financial incentives, but in return they have to be preserved as temporary monopolies.

Editor’s note: It’s sad that great ideas aren’t conceived anymore, unless there’s enough money to bring them to light and ultimately to the players. It seems companies like Microsoft don’t feel like supporting independents anymore.
