Samsung has bad news for photo fans who were actually looking forward to OneUI 6.1.
Samsung is currently rolling out its latest software to older models, for example the Galaxy series of flagship smartphones from 2023. The devices are actually good enough for most of the new functions and yet Samsung is slow in offering some new features. For example, “Super HDR” shouldn’t be.
It’s a new photo feature based on Google’s Ultra HDR. Important HDR metadata is also stored in classic JPG. It even makes it possible to not only capture and save compressed JPG photos with HDR, but also display them in HDR in the photo gallery.
Sharper photos thanks to the new HDR functions, but only for new devices
Despite Android 14, a much better display, camera and faster processor, Samsung’s new Super HDR won’t be made available on older models (Galaxy S23, etc.). Samsung is limiting Super HDR to the Galaxy S24 and other current and future models, a Samsung employee on an in-house forum reported (via Sammobile) is given no reason for this, nor do we find a good explanation on our own.
