Mortal Kombat 1 got its latest downloadable character on Ermack today, but it looks like we may now know something else that could be coming to the game.
A piece of future DLC for MK1 is likely to have leaked online, and interestingly enough, it’s dedicated to a new gender-swapped version of the classic ninja.
Possible spoilers for future announcements about the upcoming Mortal Kombat.
Professional model and fashion designer Jeon Ra posted an interesting post on his Instagram account today where he claims that he provided the face model for Harumi Hasashi in Mortal Kombat 1.
Furthermore, her posts suggest that she will be part of the game as nothing less than a female version of Scorpion.
It doesn’t look like this Scorpion character will be full of playable characters, considering his post said “Choose Harumi as your Kameo” and used the #Kameo hashtag.
If all of this is real, it would likely hint at a new Scorpion Kamo appearing in MK1’s Kombat Pack 2, which has yet to be officially revealed.
Going this way wouldn’t be too surprising since they did the Janet Cage cameo in Combat Pack 1 as an alternate timeline gender change for Johnny Cage (who appeared briefly in the story mode).
If you really want to go into detail about this, it’s best to change the gender of the Scorpio title from the usual holders, since Harumi is already an established character.
In the original timeline, Harumi was the wife of Hanzo Hasashi, who was killed along with the rest of Shirai Ryu, inspiring Scorpion to seek revenge.
The Mortal Kombat 1 timeline shows her as part of Harumi Shirai and Shirai Ryu, married and alive to Kuai Liang Scorpion as far as we know.
However, for this cameo, it looks like they’re following one of the other possible timelines introduced in MK1, where Hanzo was killed and Harumi donned the Scorpion mantle.
How his movement and appearance will differ from Hanzo/Kui Liang remains to be seen, but his in-game artwork suggests that he may focus more on sword fighting.
It’s important to release this with a grain of salt because NetherRealm Studios or Warner Bros. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet. So far – and nothing but his post fully supports this.
As of press time, Jeon Rae’s posts are still available on Instagram, where she is actively responding to fans’ comments. It also included a question about whether he was allowed to talk about it, to which he replied: “I can.”
The post has a fair number of photos and videos, but none of them are really new (or in some cases part of the MK1), except perhaps a shot of the motion/face capture setup.
If Harumi Scorpion does indeed appear as DLC for MK1 in the future, the official announcement will likely come a few months later.
Combat Pack 2 likely won’t be released until Final Combat in June or later this summer, after the first DLC series with Takeda is complete.
