Mexico is a very important country for the Latin American region, something that multiple companies have made clear in the past. So, it shouldn’t be a big surprise Nintendo Pay more attention to our country again in recent years. This was seen not only with the commercial made specifically for Mexico that we saw in 2023, but also during CCXP which took place last weekend. Nintendo was present with a place for fans, thus returning to the national event after years of absence.
During our presence at the first CCXP in Mexico, we had the opportunity to speak with Romina Whitlock, director of marketing for Nintendo Latin America, about our country’s position in Nintendo’s plans. Here’s what he told us:
“Mexico is the largest country in Latin America. We see this as crucial not only today, but for the future, and we continue to focus on its growth. In seven years of consoles [Nintendo Switch] We had a record year in Mexico. “We always see Mexico as an opportunity.”
CCXP represents Nintendo’s grand return to entertainment and video game events in Mexico. As such, Romina Whitlock talks to us about what this celebration means to them, Why they chose CCXP and whether they plan more such presence in the future. Here’s what he told us:
“We look for ways to reach consumers and fans, while also being in a place that makes sense for the brand. For example, we chose CCXP this year because it’s a pop culture training event. Although what we sell are games, we also sell entertainment for people. This is our first one in Mexico, but we have attended [la CCXP de] Brazil, we know it. What we do is whether they fit the strategy we have as a company and as a brand. Until something huge like this happens, we will continue to do small events, but we always want to be close to the fans, so we do events with fans or with the press.”
Last but not least, Romina Whitlock talks to us about how Mexico has had a significant impact on Switch game sales and its games. Here’s what he told us:
“I can tell you that all the Mario games, or the Mario family games, do very well in Mexico. The install base of the Switch has grown even more. When a game like Pikmin 4 comes out, for example, you’re starting with a big install base, so the growth and There is more opportunity for success. “We are very fortunate to be in the position we are in Mexico.”
It is clear that Nintendo is a very important country for Nintendo in the Latin American region, but we’re still a long way from seeing a Nintendo of Mexico, for example. Instead, the company will focus on growing its position through activations, such as can happen with games Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door y Luigi’s Mansion 2. On a related note, a new Nintendo World Championship is coming Likewise, you can find out more about Nintendo’s presence at CCXP in our coverage of the event.
Author’s Note:
Although it seems that Nintendo will only organize such an event again if another CCXP takes place in Mexico, the presence of the Big N in this celebration is a positive thing and it makes it clear that the company is willing to give fans in our country. The experience they crave, as long as they have the right place.
