Destiny 2 developer Bungie has apologized to angry fans who had difficulty playing The Final Shape expansion at launch.
In the final version released on June 4th, Destiny 2 quickly encountered major server issues that prevented players from progressing in the highly anticipated campaign. Many have complained of being locked out of campaign levels, missing important scenes and losing progress. Bungie has been tweeting progress updates as it works to fix the issues, but for many players, tonight was a washout.
As expected, user ratings for the final version of Steam were “mostly negative”. “Best $40 I’ve ever spent and two hours of my life… My favorite part was when Cayde said, ‘Destiny 2 servers are unavailable.’ “Cancel this message to try again,” said one comment. “Today is a good day to collect all the trouble codes if you don’t have them yet.”
Now I have Bungie chirping To solve various problems. “Hello everyone, if connectivity issues prevented you from playing or enjoying The Final Shape today, we apologize,” the Sony-owned studio said. “We are working hard to resolve each of these issues as quickly as possible and many of the connectivity issues that occurred this morning have already been resolved.”
“If connectivity issues prevented you from playing or enjoying Final Shape today, we apologize.
Bungie conducted multiple reboots to fix bugs that were causing players to lock out of activities. Bungie said that this “remains a top priority issue to resolve.” Bungie advised those who missed a cutscene to replay the mission by accessing the replayable mission node in the center of the Pale Heart map. There are scenes at the end of missions 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
“We designed The Final Shape to be an exciting, rewarding, and story-driven adventure that everyone can enjoy,” Bungie continued. “We’re truly sorry if any connectivity issues and instability disrupt this experience, and we promise to continue working until these issues are resolved.”

It’s a rocky start for “The Final Shape,” which seems to have revived interest in the long-running hit. Destiny 2 has reached 315,285 concurrent players on Steam, enough to make it the top five most played game on Valve’s platform. Microsoft and Sony do not release player numbers for Xbox and PlayStation.
The final format concludes Destiny’s overarching story by sending the player inside the Traveler into a showdown against the mysterious Witness. It’s the culmination of ten years of often enigmatic Destiny storytelling and leaves fans wondering what comes next Some speculate that Bungie has Destiny 3.
