The new Find Device will introduce a new offline feature on Pixel smartphones.
Google is rolling out the new “Find Device” internationally and will expand the tool significantly over the next few months. One of the welcome innovations is the ability to find offline devices, which has now been made official for the Pixel series. The new feature will roll out on the first models this summer.
Since the Pixel 8 series, it has been possible to accurately locate a smartphone for up to 23 hours, even if the device is actually turned off due to an empty battery. The location must be provided in encrypted form via the Device Find Network.
The app can track the device without power for at least 23 hours. Find My Device Network requires location services and Bluetooth to be turned on Cell service or Internet connection required. Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, or Pixel 8a and available to age-restricted users in select countries.
New Find My Device A large network (crowdsourcing) will use more than one billion Android devices worldwide to help users find their lost items like headphones, tracker tags, etc. Data exchange across all user devices is anonymous and encrypted. A Bluetooth signal may be sufficient to find offline devices.
