Google is making the long-awaited screen sharing via USB-C official.
It took a really long time, but the day has finally come. With a new Pixel feature drop and quarterly update for Pixel smartphones, Google is introducing screen output to Pixel devices. This means outputting the screen to a monitor or TV via USB-C.
USB-C is capable of this and so are Pixel devices, but Google hasn’t done anything in software yet. That is changing now. The Pixel 8a, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will benefit from this innovation, as well as all future Pixel models with a USB port.
Just connect the cable and your Pixel phone will ask to share the screen. For example, I use a USB-C to HDMI cable because I sometimes use my notebook to connect to the TV. What is still missing? A real desktop mode, like you get from Samsung with DeX.
