Vodafone is now making eSIM transfer easier for Samsung smartphone customers.
Vodafone is the first mobile network operator in the world to enable eSIM migration on Samsung devices with the new “eSIM Profile Re-use” feature. When you switch to a new Samsung smartphone, the eSIM is transferred directly from the old device to the new device without creating a new profile.
This process is not only user-friendly but also reduces wastage of digital data as existing e-SIM profiles are reused. Previously, when switching to a new cell phone, the SIM profile had to be deleted from the old device and manually downloaded to the new one or a completely new profile had to be set up.
With the new process, a real transfer of eSIM profile is now performed, where the profile is transferred from the old to the new Samsung smartphone with one click. Vodafone has already introduced this form of eSIM transfer for iPhone in September 2023.
Samsung devices require OneUI 6.1 operating system or newer for a firmware update and eSIM transfer. The first supported devices include the Galaxy S24 series, followed by the S21, S22, S23 series, as well as numerous Galaxy A models since the Z Flip3, Z Fold3 and A04s. eSIM migration can be done during initial setup or via smartphone settings.
An eSIM is a small chip built into the device that can be used not only in smartphones, but also in smartwatches, tablets or laptops. Advantages of eSIM are fast activation, reusability by transferring eSIM, saving space on device and saving plastic, which is good for the environment.
