The Z Flip 6 is Samsung’s first flip smartphone to use Expert RAW – but by no means the first foldable.
With the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Samsung is bringing specialist RAW app support to a flip smartphone for the first time. The free camera app, previously reserved for select Samsung models (you can get it here Galaxy Store), lets you take photos in RAW format and offers extensive manual setting options Excitingly, the Fold series has already been supported since the second generation, i.e. Galaxy Z Fold 2, which was launched in 2020.
In case you don’t understand the term at all: RAW files are characterized by a greater dynamic range than JPEG and therefore allow for more detail in the light and dark areas of the image. The Expert RAW app gives users access to settings such as ISO, shutter speed, exposure compensation and exposure metering to tailor shots precisely to the shooting situation.
According to information from the rumor mill, Samsung is also working on improving image quality while implementing expert RAW on the Galaxy Z Flip 6. An optimized balance of tone, brightness and color is intended to correct occasional overexposure problems. Detail reproduction in RAW recordings, which was partially impaired by noise reduction in the past, is also said to have been improved.
Unfortunately, I didn’t see Expert RAW finally implemented on the Z Flip 6, but I’m almost afraid there won’t be user interface optimization like the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra – you can fold the device and then put it away. Like holding a camcorder.
