Google is set to launch four Pixel 9 series smartphones on August 13, and today we got a big and detailed leak about the devices’ cameras. Information provided by Android AuthorityA new leak reveals the sensors and lenses found on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 XL and even the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
The leaks affect the front and main cameras and we can see that Google is gearing up for a major overhaul of all the devices However, the primary sensor remains the same as the Pixel 8 series and yes, that includes the separately launched Pixel Fold.
Sensors are again from Sony or Samsung, the Pro duo has 50MP IMX858 on the front and back The very old IMX386 responsible for ultra-wide angle shots is finally gone, which means an increase in image resolution and size.
Interestingly, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL get new telephoto sensors, while the Fold sticks with the old one. Android Authority suggests that this is because the foldable phone is 2mm thinner than its predecessor and there is no physical space for a larger sensor.
Here’s how the new sensors compare to last year’s sensors:

The source also revealed that Google could finally enable 8K video recording, and theoretically both the Tensor G3 chip and the Samsung GNK sensor were capable of handling it, and now Google is finally ready to take this step.
We expect all four Pixel 9 phones to be more expensive in Europe than last year’s flagships. The release is still four weeks away, so we’ll be on the lookout for more leaks.
