In recent years we have seen the number of victims of antitrust lawsuits in the United States Now, it has been revealed that, after 10 weeks, A court of this country has received Google guilty of violating antitrust laws.
In 2020, the District of Columbia Court determined that Google monopolized the search and advertising market, because Violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act, which prohibits companies from monopolizing any part of interstate or foreign commerce.. During this legal process, it was found that Google paid Apple $20 billion to have the default search engine on the iPhone.
This is not all. As it is also mentioned that in 2020, 90% of internet searches were done through Google. All of this resulted in a verdict against Google during this trial Judge Amit Mehta commented on the case:
“After careful consideration and evaluation of witness testimony and evidence, the court reaches the following conclusion: Google is a monopolist and has acted to maintain its monopoly.”
Although the outcome that Google will face at this point is unknown, It is clear that the company has to pay minimum penalty. We can only wait for more information to become available, and to know the clear consequences of this ruling. In a related matter, Donald Trump threatened Google.
Author’s Note:
Although Chrome is a better search engine than Safari or Firefox, it is clear that Google always uses tactics that clearly lead many to the conclusion that it is arbitrary and not in their own way, at least not in a way that the public can understand.
