Starting with the Pixel 9 series, Google has finally taken the plunge and integrated an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. It responds quickly and is less error prone than optical sensors. Google is now planning an exciting innovation that first appeared in the Android 16 preview.
It is possible to use the fingerprint sensor even when the display is actually turned off, Mishal wrote Android Authority. The user has to hit the right area of the screen. But that quickly became second nature.
Google is planning a completely new option: “Use fingerprint unlock even when the screen is off”. This means you can unlock the Google Pixel faster as the sensor is virtually always ready.
We expect a final introduction of new functions with Android 16, which will be released next summer.
