If you need a compact and portable USB-C charger, the Genki TurboCharger could be the solution. The gaming accessory maker says its new gallium nitride (GaN) accessory is the thinnest 100W wall charger on the market and is 18mm (0.7 inches) thick for easy packing.
Compliant with Power Delivery (PD 3.0) technology, the TurboCharger has a pair of USB-C ports on the bottom that can split 100W each or 65W/30W when charging two devices at the same time. Its slim design allows it to fit comfortably in tight spaces like the back of a sofa or cupboard, and it keeps its weight closer to the wall for a more secure connection and is less likely to fall. And while the Turbocharger is aimed at gaming laptop owners – it provides enough power for Turbo Performance mode on the ROG Ally, for example – there’s no reason other gadgets can’t use it as well.
However, it was launched as part of a Kickstarter campaign. And if you don’t mind the risk of crowdfunding, you can buy it for a special price of $48. According to the company, this price will drop to $60 later when it becomes available to everyone.
One criticism of this design is that the charger can block secondary power outlets or even an entire row of power strips. Competing offerings like Anker’s $84.99 Prime Foldable Charger avoid this by putting the prongs on the end. However, to get the best of both worlds (at the expense of watts), Anker is preparing to launch a slim 65W charger later this year that can fold the prongs in either direction.
