Touch Surface is one of the great controls we like to use during our weekend at the Loxon Show Home in Austria.
What is it?
It is a capacitive touch sensor that mounts up to 30mm above your kitchen worktop, table top or even bathroom tile. In fact it works behind most surfaces like stone, wood, ceramic or glass (but not conductive materials). This technology is not new (check it out since 2002) but it is a great technology and works well.
Placement
This template was provided to Parkes Interiors, by our kitchen designers to ensure that the Decton worktop was drilled and properly engraved.
We used the Loxone ‘Tree’ version of this sensor which has a wired 24v power supply, but there is also an “Air” version available for the retro fit which is battery powered.
Being used
Once installed, it allows the surface to function like any other Loxone 5-zone touch switch. It is also well thought out so that it is almost impossible to accidentally activate it even in a busy area like kitchen worktop.
To make the unit live you must first touch the activation button, the five touch points of the switch will be activated for 5 seconds and the remaining time will be displayed by the activation indicator which counts until the LEDs are finished (you can deactivate) this activation protection if you Like).
We programmed it to control the music and blinds in the barn as well as the light bar on the kitchen worktop. Like all other Loxone switches, a double tap will turn off the room, turn off all the lights, turn off the music, turn off the TV, and so on.
Of course the beauty of a Loxone smart home system is that we can change this setup partially or overall. For example, if we decide that we want to operate the roof windows directly above the worktop, this is a common programming change.
