In the footsteps of Smallrig and Zacuto, Tilta has introduced its cage and rigging options for the Panasonic LUMIX GH6. This cage allows you to quickly switch from handheld to gimbal and from horizontal to vertical shooting mode. Also, several kits are available that include a side handle, top handle, and 15mm LWS baseplate. Let’s take a closer look at all these new rigging options for the LUMIX GH6!
The Panasonic LUMIX GH6 was released a couple of days ago, and this flagship Micro Four Thirds caught a lot of attention from third-party accessory manufacturers. However, if you missed it, watch our review and see how the GH6 performed in our lab test.
Tilta is well-known for making quality and at the same time affordable tailormade camera cages and ecosystems. The company is back with an entire range of accessories for the LUMIX GH6 co-developed with Panasonic.
Tilta Panasonic LUMIX GH6 cage
Let’s start with the core of this system, the Tilta cage for the Panasonic LUMIX GH6. This full camera cage wraps all-around your mirrorless camera and is made of aluminum-alloy / stainless steel, which helps keep the weight down to 1.4lbs / 450grams.
The cage attaches to your camera via two 1/4 ″ -20 screws at the bottom of your GH6. Also, you can screw the camera’s right strap eyelet to the cage for extra security.
The bottom of the Tilta LUMIX GH6 cage features six 1/4 ″ -20 mounting points. The kit comes with a magnetic screwdriver and a removable baseplate – which is Arca-Swiss standard – natively compatible with the DJI Ronin RS2.
On the right side of the cage, you’ll find three 1/4 ″ -20 mounting points with locating pins. As a side note, I still don’t get why companies include locating pins next to 1/4 ″ -20 mounting points, as it is not common, and very few accessories use this “standard” compared to 3/8 ″ -16. with ARRI locating pins mounting points.
The left side of the cage features additional 1/4 ″ -20 threads, a rosette mount, and a NATO rail. These can be useful if you want to attach an extra handle that you can use for extra stability or record vertical footage.
Lastly, on top of the Tilta LUMIX GH6 cage, you’ll find three cold shoe mounts, two NATO rails, and a few additional 1/4 ″ -20 mounting points.
