Following the announcement of the L2 technology collaboration between Panasonic and Leica Camera, there was some speculation that working closely between two of the three members of the L-Mount alliance could lead to a parallel version of the L-Mount, with the Sigma camera and lens missing. L2 out on advanced technology by partnership.
We contacted Panasonic for comment and later stated that the L2 is completely different from the L-Mount partnership and that L-Mount aims to maintain a stable balance between the products of the three brands.

‘L² technology is not a new alliance but a new standard created by Leica Camera AG and Panasonic.
The L-Mount is a lens mount standard developed by Leica Camera AG and licensed by Leica Camera AG to Alliance members.
Panasonic is one of the licensed members and we aim to maintain a stable product balance among the alliance partners. Therefore, as a member of the L-Mount Alliance, we will be compatible with Sigma products. There is no change at this point.
L² Technology is the symbol that Leica Camera AG and Panasonic will invest in and develop new standards together.
These new values will be integrated into our new cameras for Panasonic and Leica, and each company will have its own marketing story. ‘
