Resistance bands have been gaining popularity over the last few years. These are easy to transport – think of working on the road – and can have difficult results One of the best things about training with resistance bands is that they offer an easy way to get started. Strength training regardless of your fitness level. Resistance bands are usually less technically as they come. So when I had the opportunity to review a set that would track your progress and let you know how many calories you were burning in a workout, I jumped at it.
The idea behind it WeGym Rally X Smart Resistance Band. They use AI technology and a related app to track your fitness data. The app also includes specific workout videos to help you get started and discover new resistance band exercises.
Heavy-duty resistance band, you can take with you

These resistance bands are definitely one step ahead of the basic rubbers you will find in sporting goods stores. At first glance, they remind us of something that people train for American Ninja Warrior Can use. While they may be a bit intimidating, they act as expected. Attach the wrist and ankle attachments to the bands and use them as other resistance bands – either practice flooring or enter a door jam with included door anchors.
At the base of each band is a smart sensor unit that connects to your phone via Bluetooth. Just press the power button when you are ready to exercise. It emits a blue light, so you know the app is ready to track your progress The smart sensor unit has a microUSB port neatly hidden. We were fascinated by how fast it charged and how long it held (about two to three weeks of frequent use).

Resistance Adjuster is a large rectangular unit in the middle of a resistance band. I like the idea that as your strength improves you can adjust your resistance. When you use basic bands, your resistance changes with the change in your body weight, or if you have different resistance level bands (low, medium, heavy and extra heavy), it is best to find a way to control yourself.
Unfortunately, in my experiment, the resistance adjuster will not be in place all the time, so it was difficult to have a consistent workout. That said, the band, smart sensor unit, or resistance adjuster didn’t seem to fly off the wall and hit us in the face. Construction is difficult if not completely reliable.
Workout and tracking in the app
WeGym’s companion app (iOS And Android) Is designed to help you see progress and inspire new workout routines. The app will track your results and log the results of each workout – whether you use one from the app or make your own. You can choose exercises based on core, shaping, health improvement, strength or freestyle. The app will also take you through setting up a workout plan by asking multiple questions. It’s fairly straightforward, and the results of the proposed plan should be found if you really do it.
When working with Rally X, you can do your own exercise routine, and the unit will count how many repetitions it will have and let you know that calories have been burned at the end of the workout. In our experiments, we found it to be generally accurate – although the calories burned did not seem to match what our Garmin Watch said (something similar happens with other workouts).

As mentioned, you can also do one of the workouts in the app. These are difficult workouts to create clearly with instructor input. For example, there is a warm-up section and a 30-second rest time that indicates how you should extend that time. The app will tell you how long each workout lasts, the body areas of focus and the necessary tools. Throughout the routine, you can see how many calories you are burning. Videos are easy to watch on a smartphone.
We should note that WeGym has recently modified its companion app and there are some definite improvements. For example, music is no longer played during workouts, which is a good thing. Although probably meant to pump the heart, it sounded like the music you would hear in a rave that lost its DJ and admitted a baby.
Our acceptance
WeGym is a good idea, and the technology is there for the most part, but it’s probably not for anyone who isn’t serious about tracking their workouts. I took the bands with me on vacation for a few weeks and between the band and a yoga practice, I could do a decent workout. I could leave these at home and pick up my light weight resistant band that easily slides in front of a suitcase and can also get a tough workout. We appreciate that they are IP54 waterproof, so you can use them outdoors and not worry about the ingredients.
While the kit may seem heavy, it’s not really that bad – it weighs a little over 3 pounds. It comes with a nice mesh bag to carry all the pieces, but it can be a bit heavy. One of the main reasons for taking these on the road is if you do a lot of exercise which requires ankle attachment. Overall, I like the idea of smart resistance bands, but they are not yet fully baked. The problem is that the resistance adjuster will not be in the right place during the workout. However, the app update is promising, and the company says that Resistance Adjuster will be fixed in the coming version.
Is there a better option?
In fact, until the resistance adjustment is right, you can just get resistance bands in different weights and tracks – at least – your calories that burn anything. The fitness watch you are using.
How long will it last?
These are relatively new product categories, so longevity is still questionable. However, firmware updates to the company’s apps and products will continue, so you need to make them more durable than other resistant bands that are prone to breakage (these are rubber, above all).
Should I buy it?
Probably not yet, I’ll wait for the new version. At $ 130, you must want a model where the resistance adjuster works. That being said, if you don’t have a lot of space for gym equipment in your home or travel a lot, these are a good option. They will give you full physical exercise, lots of flexibility and will do a decent job of providing useful data about your workout. As mentioned, the company has only significantly updated the mobile app, so we wouldn’t be surprised if an update to the tools isn’t too late.
