Monthly macro analysis by gauge of consumer access across major television platforms, including broadcast and streaming. The chart also shows the breakdown of major streaming distributors. This chart shows the share of individual streaming distributors in each section as well as the total TV usage.
Gauge data is obtained from two weighted panels. Then they come together to create graphic. SME’s streaming data is taken from a subset of the streaming meter-capable TV family within the national TV panel. Linear TV sources (broadcast and cable), as well as total usage based on SME’s overall viewing from the TV panel.
Data is based on a specific viewing time. The data, representing the 5 week month, included a combination of live +7 for 1 – 4 weeks in the data period. Notice: Live +7 covers live viewing on television and viewing up to seven days later. The Live +3 package includes watching and watching live television for up to three more days.
In The Gauge, “Other” includes all other TVs. This includes tuning other than the one shown, unlimited video-on-demand (VOD) streaming, other devices (DVD playback) and all other televisions. Because streaming only through set top boxes does not give credit to the respective streaming distributors, these are included in the “Other” category. We will continue to work SMEs to improve our streaming meter technology as well as to credit individual streaming distributors simply through set-top boxes.
Streaming platforms listed as “other streaming” include high-bandwidth video streaming on television that is not broken down individually.
Hulu live viewing includes Hulu, and YouTube viewing includes YouTube TV.
Echoed linear streaming, also known as encoded TV, can be found under the broadcast or cable group (linear TV), as well as streaming and other streaming options such as Hulu TV, YouTube TV, and other streaming MVPD / vMVPD apps. MVPD is a multichannel video programming distributor. This service is provided by several television channels. Distributors who combine TV programming from multiple networks are known as VMVPDs. They offer a subscription that allows exclusive access to the content.
