According to the latest ESET Threat report, email threats increased 37 percent in the first four months of the year compared to the last four months of 2021. It was also the biggest spike in this category since 2020. The peak came in March and was partly triggered by the resurgence of the Emotate botnet which created a lot of emails with malicious attachments.
