A Google Maps feature has a double face: useful and dangerous at the same time. This is a feature that Big G app has recently launched to know where someone is at all times.
There’s something to worry about, of course, since the idea of controlling a person’s location is a bit confusing, to be honest. After all, there’s something disturbing about thinking that someone can always know where we are.
Obviously this function cannot be activated without the consent of the “controlled” person, since privacy laws do not allow this person to track someone’s movements without knowing what is going on, but there is still something strange about someone constantly following us through GPS. .
Google Maps: The new feature is useful for concerned parents
So this new feature provides the ability to receive a notification every time a friend or family member comes home (or leaves the home, do it right away). An alternative to the Google Maps app that can reassure anxious parents or perhaps anyone worried about those on a long commute.
Here’s how you can enable this function in Google Maps: Inside the application, click on your profile photo and then click on Share location and then tap on the profile of the person who shared the location with us.
In the Notifications section, tap Add and then in the Choose a location section you can select an address or click a predefined location. On the other hand, if you want to choose a new location, you can choose an address in the search bar or click Choose on the map. After setting the position by moving your finger on the screen, press Done and that’s it.
At this point you can choose whether to receive notifications when another user arrives or leaves home, and the person who decided to share the location will also receive an email to let them know you’ve added the notification.
About information shared, Google makes it clear “People you share your location with can see your name, photo, and location in real time across all Google services, even when you’re not using Maps. They can also add location sharing notifications to let you know when you arrive or leave a certain location. Information shared may include places you have recently visited, modes of transportation used, information about your device and your location, such as home and work”.
Of course one might be tempted to use this function to “spy” on other people’s movements but as always Big G is ready to protect the privacy of its users.
