With the latest generation of its Pixel cell phones, Google is introducing several innovations without completely reinventing the wheel. There are a few smart innovations, various upgrades for the camera and an improved tensor processor.
The renewed Tensor G2 processor has a new image signal processor for the camera, a powerful graphics unit, processor cores with higher clocks, built in 4 nm and brings some improvements for machine learning, AI and TPU. Google makes a lot more possible.
Tensor G2 is said to have 60% more power overall.
Google Pixel greatly improves the camera
It includes a total of ten new camera functions. Google has completely overhauled Super Race Zoom and now makes even more use of existing hardware. Blurry photos can be sharpened, the Pixel 7 Pro has a macro mode, 10-bit HDR video and more.
Includes VPN, new smart functions
The new Pixel phones are also smarter. Google Messages includes new Assistant features including automatic emoji suggestions for voice input and a transcription for received voice messages Google’s VPN service (via Google One) is also set to be free for the Pixel 7 series.
The all-new Clear Calling uses machine learning to reduce background noise during phone calls. Google promises significantly better conversations, even in loud noise.
Other innovations are not directly related to the Pixel 7 series, such as the renewed expansion of Live Display.
Face Unlock has been re-integrated for the first time
Starting with the Pixel 4, the new devices are also equipped with Face Unlock for the first time. Here too, machine learning should make the solution with the front camera as safe as possible. But it is more of a convenience feature.
