Global esports platform Challengermode has signed an exclusive 5-year deal with Midjiwan, developers of turn-based civilization strategy game The Battle of Polytopia, to develop the game’s competitive esports scene.
This partnership is a big step forward in Challengermode’s mission to directly support game developers in realizing their games’ esports ambitions and to prove how easy it is for gamers to make the leap from casual multiplayer to grassroots competitive gaming – and for 3rd party esports organizers. Host easily accessible in-game competitions.
ChallengerMode will help MidziOne with its esports expertise and automated tournament technology to guide the development of The Battle of Polytopia for a global competitive audience on Steam, iOS and Android. Players will be able to browse, play and view tournament results right within the Polytopia game app, without leaving the game client or using an external third-party esports mechanism. The goal is to create a strong esports community for Battle of Polytopia where base players can seamlessly compete for real prizes in an organized environment.
Robel Efrem, CEO and founder of Challengermode, said: “We are very excited to help Midjiwan expand the competitive aspect of The Battle of Polytopia. I’ve been a huge fan of the game for years, and the opportunity to help build the growing esports scene is a dream come true. ChallengerMode is a great opportunity for game developers to quickly expand their own competitive gaming operations and showcase the benefits of working directly with esports companies to make their games more inclusive and accessible to all levels of esports hopefuls. With the continued growth of the esports grassroots sector, we expect more game developers to offer competitive modes such as tournaments, leagues and leaderboards alongside their classic multiplayer modes in the near future.
Integration with the Challengermode Game Integration API allows MidjiOne to develop other valuable additions to Polytopia’s competitive community, including “live games” – a music box game mode where players have just over a minute to start their turn. Players who make their move will also be able to access match replays, meaning any multiplayer matches they play can be saved, replayed and shared with others as often as they like.
Christian Lövstedt, General Manager of MidziOne, added that: “With their commitment to the esports player base, ChallengerMode is the perfect partner to build our competitive gaming scene for Battle of Polytopia. It was important for us as developers to integrate the esports aspects of Polytopia into the core game, thus removing the barrier that usually exists between casual multiplayer and competitive play that players can enjoy at a more professional level. We appreciate Challengermode’s esports expertise and look forward to working closely with them to bring the competitive aspect of The Battle for Polytopia to a larger audience than ever before.”
