2022 has been a great year for video game releases. Almost every month, it had one or more premieres that filled our eyes and that took us into the wonderful world to tell the stories that remain for our posterity. Despite the above, we also have to admit that there were few moments where a particular title was far from what we expected. It’s like this, Not everything has been honey on the flakes in recent months, and for proof, here are the five games we present to you, which promised a lot for many reasons when announced but when they finally got our hands, they showed their true colors, leaving us with a deep sense of disappointment. Tell us, which 2022 title disappointed you the most?
Fall of Babylon
The Platinum Games name has become one of the most respected in the medium, however, throughout its history, they have had a few setbacks that we cannot forget. However, it currently seems inconceivable that someone of their caliber would fail at a major project, but it is clear to us that they are still human beings who make mistakes and, above all, make bad decisions. When Babylon’s Fall was announced, many of us couldn’t help but feel emotion for those behind it, which faded as information and game progress came out. When it finally came time to test it out, we stumbled across a title with a really poor service that basically crashed everything it tried. What a big disappointment we got.
Crossfire X
Crossfire is one of the most successful shooters in Asia, especially in Korea. In an effort to start appearing more in Western markets, it was decided to create a new version called Crossfire X, which will bring the great addition of a campaign created by none other than the parents of things like Alan, Remedy Entertainment. Awake and control. The announcement was taken as rather strange news, but one that undoubtedly sparked curiosity, since the Finnish developer, also responsible for Max Payne, knows how to work very well. When it came time to test the final product, we found a bland title with no personality or clear concept that felt like a product without any kind of vision or purpose. In the end, the collaboration we were talking about didn’t work out, and the game went down as one of the medium’s lowest moments this 2022.
Chocobo GP
We all know very well that for a good while, Nintendo has had a monopoly on karting games. The quality of the last four or five Mario Karts is so high that anyone trying to do anything within the genre falls short. Despite all of the above, the concept of Chocobo GP sounds promising, as in the past, Square Enix has already delivered good results in this bid to bring the world of Final Fantasy to the competition. We were wrong to get our hopes up, because in the end what happened happened: a flat, bland and very boring game thanks to a poor level design and controls that just didn’t settle. We really hoped Chocobos Racing would be fun.
reproach
Scorn was another one of their games that as soon as it was first shown you were sure it would be an experience like no other. His entire style, which looks like it came out of a movie with art by HR Giger, made him irresistible to some and loathsome to others. Regardless of your position, it’s something we have to play with. As soon as it was launched, we encountered a game that was really very special, since it was committed to being completely ambiguous and hostile to the player, displaying a language that is almost impossible to decipher and which is absolutely necessary. To solve its complex puzzles. Add to that its terrible combat system and you have an incredibly uncomfortable and frustrating experience that was very difficult to enjoy. It’s a shame that such poor design decisions were made, as the potential was undoubtedly there.
Mario Strikers: Battle League
Yes, a Nintendo game on our list of biggest disappointments this year, we even think Switch Sports deserves a spot here for exactly the same reason. When Mario Strikers: Battle League was announced, recalling the great moments the series left behind during the Gamecube and Wii eras, more than one person couldn’t help but feel great emotions. Those next level games made us feel better. There was no way it could go wrong. What a surprise when we found ourselves with a racquet game in terms of content. Great gameplay concept and all, but lacking to do anything other than challenge your friends. One of those games that really broke our hearts.
