Google is planning its own folding smartphone for the Pixel series for the first time in 2023, and is taking the approach where you can open the cell phone and find a tablet display inside. However, there are different ideas about how big these devices should be.
The Pixel Fold is more reminiscent of Oppo’s foldable
There are also different form factors. Samsung, for example, relies on a very tall, very square design, while Oppo’s Find N is a bit wider. Since today not only the appearance of the Pixel Fold, but also the dimensions are known, you can already compare the devices with each other. Different formats can make significant differences in software.

Wider screens are actually better for apps
On Oppo and Google, the display is slightly wider, allowing more screen folding in the software. As you know, basically all big screens are wider than they are tall. The display of the software also relies on open Android apps like our peers 9to5Google Note their comparison.
On the left we see YouTube on the Oppo Find N2, on the right on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. The app will appear on the Pixel Fold, similar to the Oppo Foldable.
Google basically makes a fairly large device and unfortunately can’t keep up with Oppo. The Chinese OEM was initially praised for bringing a large foldable in a fairly compact format. The Google Foldable is huge.
It is not yet clear when Google will be folded. However, it should probably be planned for the first half of 2023.
