Last season’s first episode Cobra Kai It has already premiered on Netflix, and even though these episodes didn’t get the desired success, the streaming giant isn’t giving up on the property, So they’re already thinking about greenlighting a new spin-off, which will focus on Master Miyagi.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, its makers Cobra KaiHayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, already working on the prequel to The Karate Kid, The focus is on Master Miyagi’s past, an element that touched many during the original trilogy of films, but we never saw its entirety. This shouldn’t be a big surprise, as this theme has been explored quite a bit in season six, and it’s something that will surely gain more weight as Cobra Kai nears its end. Schlossberg commented on this:
“We always think about Cobra Kai spin-offs. Cobra Kai itself is in a way a spin-off of The Karate Kid.
We took that branch and made our own tree out of it, and we felt like we could do that with any character on the show. One of the reasons we did the Miyagi Box story this season. It opens up all these questions about Mr. Miyagi and what his life was like, and it’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while.”
While there is currently no information from Netflix about a new spin-off of The Karate Kid, its makers Cobra Kai They talk about the project in a way that indicates they are already working on this new series, or at least in pre-production. With a Netflix event planned for September, We’ll probably have more information about the future of this series in the coming months.
Let us remember that A new The Karate Kid movie is also in the works, with Ralph Macchio reprising his role as Daniel on the big screen., it’s with Jackie Chan. On a related note, you can learn more about Netflix events for September here.
Author’s Note:
I’m not sure a Miyagi series can do as well as Cobra Kai. It’s not impossible, but it’s also not easy to do, especially considering that Pat Morita is dead, and during Cobra Kai there was no attempt to use another actor to show us any past scenes with the character.
