There is meta The U.S. has announced an update of location targeting options For advertising, additional geo-targeting options will be added, along with the districts of the U.S. Congress, as defined by the 2020 census.
Explained by Meta:
“Beginning May 19, 2022, an additional set of location targeting options will be available for the updated U.S. Congressional District following the U.S. 2020 Census. These will all be added to the ad interface (including the API) and marked by “2020-Census”. For example, North Carolina’s updated District 5 will be available in a location targeting “North Carolina’s 5th District-2020-Census, United States.”
This is a small change in the larger scheme, but it can have a big impact on targeting ads based on political declarations or movements, the more specific position qualifications provide more consideration for your advertising method.
Meta further notes that as new congressional districts are finalized, it will be available in their ad interfaces.
“If an updated congressional map of a state is currently in the case, there will be no new targeting option for it. If an updated congressional district is not yet available, we recommend using another Positioning option Based on location, such as postal codes, targeting cities and counties. “
So you have a variety of options for geo-targeting your ad campaigns, but updated districts will provide more accurate visitor estimation data and more specific focus on constituencies.
Current, pre-2020 Census Congressional District Targeting options will be available to advertisers until early 2023.
“The name and boundaries of this district will remain the same. For example, the North Carolina Pre-2020 Census District will be available as “5th District of North Carolina, USA”.
Again, this isn’t a big change, but it does provide more insight into how Meta defines U.S. ad targeting areas, which may have specific value for business targeting ads based on political influence, interests, regional preferences, etc.
