Adobe has released the first public beta for its Arm version of Premiere Pro for macOS. This update means owners of Apple’s new M1-powered computers will be able to run the video editing application natively.
In the announcement post, Adobe reiterates that this beta version is very much in the works and will be updated frequently as new compatibility gets added. ‘Since Premiere Pro is built on a large codebase with support for a wide range of media and workflows, we will implement native support for Apple M1 in phases and some parts have not been ported yet,’ reads the announcement post. ‘This phased approach allows us to validate performance and functionality for specific parts of the application before we add new components. And it also allows you to start seeing the benefits now.’
Adobe says this first public beta includes ‘all the core editing functions and workflows like color, graphics, and audio, as well as features like Productions and multicam [with] prioritized support for the most widely used codecs, like H.264, HEVC, and ProRes.’
Adobe says your ‘average editor’ (whatever that means) will likely see ‘ver little difference’ compared to the Intel version. That said, third-party integrations, such as drivers, effects and plugins will only run natively on M1 Macs is the developers update accordingly.
