Google is improving on the Pixel 8; There are probably full AI programs.
A few weeks ago, Google rather casually announced that the two Pixel 8 smartphones would take different approaches to artificial intelligence. The regular Pixel 8 isn’t powerful enough in terms of hardware for the smaller Gemini Nano language model. You can think about the criticism in the media about this.
Google is now backtracking on its decision. With an upcoming Pixel feature drop, the regular Pixel 8 will get the language model as a developer preview. This makes additional functions possible at the cost of the current two Google cell phones. “Simplify recorders and compose magic into messages,” the company reveals.
Google has yet to elaborate on the objective
Aside from the significantly smaller RAM on the Pixel 8, there aren’t really any differences on the Pixel 8 Pro that might affect AI functions. However, Google has never detailed why they don’t want to bring the Gemini Nano to the Pixel 8. Maybe this will be clarified at some point.
The Gemini Nano is the smallest voice model and is specially designed for smartphones. It enables some AI functions, especially in the text area, directly on the device independently of the Internet and within seconds. Google wants to use it on its own devices, and Samsung is also on board.
