AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs based on the Zen 4 core architecture have started appearing at online retailers. Canadian retailer PC-Canada has listed all four CPUs with initial price lists.

Those prices are certainly high, which is to be expected given the initial offers we’ve seen though before While the 8- and 6-core models are rumored to be cheaper than their predecessors, the higher-core count variants of the Ryzen 9 line may cost more.

If we compare prices with current processors from the same retailer, we see that the Ryzen 9 7950X costs CAD 158 more than the Ryzen 9 5950X. The Ryzen 9 7900X costs $13 less than the Ryzen 9 5900X, the Ryzen 7 7700X costs $216 more than the Ryzen 7 5700X, and the Ryzen 5 7600X costs $15 less than the Ryzen 5 5600X. With that in mind, we must wait for the final price, which AMD only knows now but can expect to finally reveal on August 29.
So, before we dive into the basic specs, we should mention that the AMD Zen 4 architecture brings an 8-10% IPC boost, but most of the performance benefits come from higher clock speeds and a higher TDP, which require each chip to complement the previous generation. AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16 Core “Zen 4” Desktop-CPU
Starting with the flagship of them all, we have the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, which retains the 16 cores and 32 threads from the previous two generations. The CPU has an impressive base frequency of 4.5 GHz and a boost clock of 5.7 GHz, making it 200 MHz faster than Intel’s Alder Lake Core i9-12900KS processor, which has a boost frequency of 5.5 GHz on a single core. It looks like AMD may be in the region of 170W TDP (230W PPT) for Ryzen 9 chips with Hertz per ounce. As for cache, the CPU has 80MB, which includes 64MB L3 (32MB per CCD) and 16MB L2 (1MB per core).
We don’t know the price or performance of the Ryzen 9 7950X yet, but based on hours alone it should be a worthy successor to the Ryzen 9 5950X and easily outperform the current Intel Core i9-12900K CPU.
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12 Core “Zen 4” Desktop-CPU
Next we have another AMD Ryzen 9 chip, the 7900X, which as the name suggests will come with 12 cores and 24 threads. The CPU has a higher base clock of 4.7GHz and an adjustable boost clock of 5.6GHz on a single core. The CPU maintains a TDP of 170W and gets 76MB cache (64MB L3 + 12MB L2). The CPU will be placed in the same range as the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, but with performance that will shake the Core i7-12700K below.
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8 Core “Zen 4” Desktop-CPU
Moving on to the Ryzen 7 family, here we have the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, an 8-core, 16-thread part. AMD is positioning it as the perfect spot for gamers, and as such the CPU will have a base clock of 4.5GHz and a boost clock of 5.4GHz, but a 105W TDP (142W PPT). The CPU gets a 40MB cache array with 32MB L3 from a single CCD and 8MB L2 from the Zen 4 core.
It is interesting to note that AMD has not yet updated the Ryzen 7 7800X chip. AMD will probably want to replace this part with the successor to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with Zen 4 cores (3D V-Cache). If that’s the case, we can expect an update to the CPU lineup since its release later this year V-Cache parts are confirmed for late Q4 2022 Launch AMD itself. Also based on segmentation alone, it looks like the Ryzen 7 7700X will be really affordable in the mainstream segment.
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6 Core “Zen 4” Desktop-CPU
Finally, we have a budget-class chip (if you can call it that, but the price doesn’t reflect it), the Ryzen 5 7600X. It will be a 6-core 12-thread part with a high base clock of 4.7GHz and a single-core boost frequency of 5.3GHz. The CPU will also run at 105W TDP (142W PPT), which is significantly higher than its 65W predecessor, but again, that’s all you need to achieve faster clock speeds. The CPU will contain 38MB of cache from 32MB of L3 and 6MB of L2 in cubes.
