Apple is ramping up its work on foldable devices, according to a new note to investors 9 to 5 Mac. According to a report by Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, Apple will begin mass production of a 20.3-inch foldable device in late 2025, followed by a foldable iPhone in late 2026.
Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that Apple is working on a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook and is targeting a release sometime in 2027. Ross Young also reported that Apple is developing a 20-inch foldable hybrid, which is slated for release in 2026 or 2027. Bloomberg Mark Gurman also said that Apple is “exploring a dual-screen foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid.”
If Pu’s report today is to be believed, Apple has “accelerated” its work on foldable devices. According to the report, there is “increasing visibility” of Apple’s foldable devices based on supply chain controls.
Bo said Apple’s foldable device will represent a “new Apple lineup” aimed at the “high-demand market.” Apple is considering two screen sizes for the foldable iPhone: 7.9 inches and 8.3 inches.
Again, mass production of the 20.3-inch foldable is slated to begin in late 2025. The foldable iPhone is expected to follow by the end of 2026.
Take 9to5Mac
This is an incredibly aggressive schedule and has yet to be confirmed by other sources. I’m going to look at it with some skepticism for now. Still, it’s fun to imagine what a world where Apple makes foldable devices might look like.
