LONDON, Nov 17 (Reuters) – Apple Inc ( AAPL.O ) has filed a lawsuit against the European Commission’s decision under the recently introduced Digital Markets Act, according to a release from the Court of Justice of the European Union in X.
The tough new law targets 22 “gateway” services operated by six tech companies – Microsoft ( MSFT.O ), Apple ( AAPL.O ), Alphabet ( GOOGL.O ), Google, Amazon ( AMZN.O ), Meta and TikTok subsidiaries. … for the bite dance. .
The law aims to make it easier for people to navigate between competing services by controlling how their messaging apps interact with competitors and empowering users to decide which apps are pre-installed on their devices.
While the details of Apple’s legal challenge have yet to be announced, Bloomberg News reported last week that the company will challenge the addition of its App Store to the gatekeepers list.
Tech giants META.O and TikTok have already appealed the commission’s decision to include their services.
Meta said in its appeal that it disagreed with the commission’s decision to bring its messenger and marketplace services under the DMA. He did not question the inclusion of Facebook, WhatsApp or Instagram.
Meanwhile, TikTok said its designation risked consolidating the power of dominant tech companies.
“Our platform, which has been operating in Europe for just over five years, is far from being a gatekeeper and arguably the most capable competitor to more established platform companies,” he said.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
