In the world of gaming phones, very few people can compare with Asus’s ROG phone series. In 2022, we expect Asus ROG Phone 6 to blow the competition again. But what will it bring to the table – and when? We’ve gathered all the credible rumors related to the 2022 ROG phone series. Further down, we’ve listed some things that we hope to see change in Asus at this time.
When will the Asus ROG Phone 6 release date be?
- Asus ROG Phone – October, 2018
- Asus ROG Phone 2 – September, 2019
- Asus ROG Phone 3 – October, 2020
- Asus ROG Phone 5 – May, 2021
On June 1, 2022, Asus ROG confirmed the name of the Phone 6 and its launch date. Asus will launch the phone on July 5, 2022, at 8:00 AM ET. The company posted a countdown timer ROG Phone 6 mini-siteIn which we have captured a screenshot above.
Keep in mind that July 5 may be a general announcement. The day Asian customers will be able to buy the phone could be weeks or even months later. Similarly, Western buyers will probably have to wait even longer, as Asus usually spreads the launch over time, one of the last places to get a phone in the United States. Above is a general guide to when models from previous major series hit North America, usually three or four months after the previous launch.
What are the features and features of Asus ROG Phone 6?
Ryan-Thomas Shaw / Android Authority
They have a very “gamer” aesthetic on Asus gaming phones. We don’t expect to see that change this year. Also, phones have some of the best space sheets in the industry, which we don’t even expect to change.
Design
Back in January, Mishal Rahman A sketch of what ROG Phone 6 looks like has been found. This sketch can be seen in the Android 12 update software for Asus Zenfone 8. You can see the sketch below.
And from the same firmware, a sketch of ROG Phone 6. I’m really curious to see how Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 performs on this phone, as it doesn’t look good on Moto Edge X30 or Xiaomi 12. pic.twitter.com/RhOElpL6OV
If the sketch proves correct, Asus will not be able to go very far from his own beaten path. The sketch looks a lot like the 2021 ROG Phone 5 series. However, this sketch could be just that – a round idea of what the phone might look like.
Even if we ignore the sketch, we would expect the ROG Phone 6 to come with the same design elements as last year’s model. It will have a rear display, a headphone jack, two USB-C ports (one on the bottom and one on the side) and an air trigger.
Specs and features

We already know Asus ROG will come with Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 as the processor of Phone 6. Asus claims it will be the first gaming phone with a chip, though it remains to be seen. Either way, the phone should be a powerhouse with that chip under the hood, and it should face significantly less overheating than the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

We can assume that Asus ROG will not downgrade any of the other specs we have seen in the phone 6. As such, it is safe to expect a 144Hz OLED display with FHD + resolution, a 6,000mAh battery, and internal storage up to 512GB. Up to 18GB RAM, and Wi-Fi 6E connection. A recent regulatory filing The ROG Phone 6 seems to have the same 65W wired charging speed as the previous generation.
Camera spaces are a bit more in the air because photography isn’t really the main focus of a gaming phone. However, Asus may have some surprises for us in that regard. We have to wait and see.
What will be the price of Asus ROG Phone 6?
Ryan-Thomas Shaw / Android Authority
Asus has refreshed the ROG Phone 5 series in the second half of 2021. Launched under the ROG Phone 5S banner, those phones were priced as follows:
- Asus ROG Phone 5S – 1,099
- Asus ROG Phone 5S Pro – $ 1,299
Judging from these prices, Asus may drop the ROG Phone 6 Series at the same price point, although the base ROG Phone 5 was available in some markets for as low as 699. We don’t know for sure yet, but we expect the most common models to fit the $ 1,000 mark.
Also, don’t forget that Asus usually launches a top-out Ultimate version of its ROG phones. It will almost certainly be $ 1,499 or more, judging from past releases.
Asus ROG Phone 6: What we want to see
With the Asus ROG Phone 6, we must see how Asus delivers the best audio, long battery life and gaming software that does what this series does. But, of course, there are some changes and improvements that we want to get next time. So here is our wish list for what we want to see from the upcoming ROG Phone 6.
Advanced cooling solution
Ryan-Thomas Shaw / Android Authority
The Asus ROG phone series is all about gaming performance, and although we certainly have no complaints about that, its latest phone may be a bit warmer during extended play. It’s not enough to make the phone uncomfortable to hold, but you can definitely feel the heat after 15 to 20 minutes.
Asus bundles its Arrow Active Cooler accessory with the Pro and Ultra variants, but you’ll need to purchase it separately with the regular version. It’s a little heavy to use on the go and it’s not the cheapest accessory, which costs around $ 45. This accessory would be even better if the extra buttons were easy to reach, so perhaps a new design has been made to make the cooler a bit more ergonomic? In addition, the next time you come back to bundle the cooler with all the models will not hurt.

Alternatively, the ROG Phone 6 would be great if it comes with an advanced passive cooling system to improve the temperature without the need for accessories. To be fair to ROG phones, Asus has already included a charging bypass mode and Wi-Fi optimization to reduce the temperature while gaming and prolong battery life. More of these neat ideas will continue to set the phone apart from the competition.
Better camera package
Ryan-Thomas Shaw / Android Authority
We chose the ROG Phone 5 in part because it offers a solid head camera, especially for a gaming smartphone. However, image quality from ultraviolet lenses and macro cameras does not keep pace with the primary Snapper. Outcomes from ultraviolet can be quite bad, in particular, with noticeable distortions. An even more powerful all-in-one imaging package will certainly enhance ROG Phone 6’s general flagship certifications.
Similarly, the deceptive 5MP macro camera can be completely removed. It doesn’t really offer much in the way of utility but adds a bill of materials. Switching to telephoto zoom lenses will offer much more flexibility, matching the capabilities of other phones in the ROG series price brackets. A package that is more closely compatible with Snapdragon Insider’s smartphone, based on Qualcomm’s phone ROG Phone 5, can do the trick – although hopefully without bugs and expensive price tags.
A more powerful all-round camera package will enhance the phone’s flagship certifications.
We’re not going to claim industry-leading image quality – gaming is still the primary focus of this handset. But a more competitive and well-rounded camera package will definitely make the phone a better long-term investment for gamers and general users.
Features with subtlety
Ryan-Thomas Shaw / Android Authority
The Asus ROG Phone 5 is not IP rated, has no wireless charging and we described the in-display fingerprint scanner as the most unreliable. It’s a shame we’ve come to expect these features from high-end smartphones that feature $ 1,000 price tags.
As the gaming formula has already dwindled, Asus may be working on some features that will improve the more general use of the phone. Wireless charging is a great feature to top up the battery throughout the day, while a best-in-class fingerprint scanner eliminates frustration when unlocking the phone. Similarly, a good selfie camera, an IP rating, low weight, even expandable storage all add value, especially at Asus’s high price point. We will resolve the two out of the wish list as a decent improvement in the existing formula.
Our verdict: Asus ROG Phone 5 Review
Addressing them will complement the already great stereo speakers, haptic feedback, and capacitive air triggers that make the ROG series such a great gaming phone.
Less models and variants
Ryan-Thomas Shaw / Android Authority
Asus has sold five ROG Phone 5 models at launch – three different memory variants of the standard model, as well as the Pro and Ultra variants. Drop a few of the ROG Phone 5S models that have an upgraded Snapdragon 888 Plus processor and had seven different options to choose from at various points throughout 2021. I would say that it would easily be three or four much more and the range would benefit a simplified portfolio.
For starters, I’ll leave the 128GB storage option. However, nowadays it is not really enough for a decent game and media collection. Similarly, the Ultra model does not require any existence other than 18GB RAM overkill and possibly bragging rights. It also seems a bit silly that there are different rear display options for the Standard, Pro and Ultra variants. The price of that little secondary display is obviously a factor here, but it’s a unique aspect of ROG’s design that it should probably be in or out of all the front models now.
There is no need to launch a phone with five different variants.
I will simplify the range of three models including RAM, storage, and possibly camera configuration as the main dividers. This will make it easier for consumers to understand the differences and still allow Asus to reach price points above and below the 1,000 mark without compromising on the phone’s core gaming focus.
