Baldur’s Gate 3 scored an IGN 10/10, falling in the same tier as Metascore Tears

Yeah, yeah, who knows what IGN says. We may live in the age of modern “bad press play”, but it usually comes from the same people who constantly argue about Metacritic scores. And by far the largest English-language video game site, surviving the death of many others, I wouldn’t say it’s unimportant to IGN. Hand out the perfect score for the big game.

IGN’s philosophy is that a 10/10 game doesn’t have to be completely flawless because that’s literally impossible, but looking back at past 10/10 games, Baldur’s Gate 3 is in the same company as The Elden Ring, The Last of Us Part 2. , Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, Pokemon Red and Blue and Ocarina of Time. I’m less convinced of the dozens, which are from Deathloop and Overwatch (though probably Overwatch in the context of its release era) and to each their own. Now that many registered reviews have been published, we can see that Baldur’s Gate 3 has 27 10/10 reviews out of a total of 55. The lowest personal rating comes from Eurogamer at 8/10. Of the 55 registered reviews, 52 are rated 9/10 or higher.

Because of this, the overall score is close to an all-time best. Some new U10 players actually dropped their scores from an insane 97 to 96. That means it now occupies the same spot as this year’s Tears of the Kingdom, although it still has less than half the reviews. It also lost the title of “Highest Scoring PC Game Ever” to Disco Elysium: The Final Cut. However, it’s still tied with…Half-Life 2, GTA 5 and BioShock. Only six computer games in history have had 96 games, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of them.

I’ve said before that I think the game is now the number one pick for Game of the Year, at least for a big show like the Game Awards, based on an industry-wide vote. I said earlier that Tears of the Kingdom is banned, but now I need to restate it. Starfield is the main card here, but we’ll see how it compares to Bethesda’s other big AAA games that have previously scored highly and won GOTY awards. Any other year, it might be the top spot, but 2023 is a banger.

So Baldur’s Gate 3 continues and is a resounding success that has exceeded all expectations.
