Video game movies are taking on new relevance in recent years, and that’s because production companies are prioritizing their quality. We have seen this with revelation Detective Pikachu, unknown and two sonic in the cinema This brings us to the constant request to pass on its franchise Gears of War in the cinematographic world, and unfortunately the offers they have made related to it have been rejected several times.
In a new podcast featuring video game celebrities, the creator of this story, Cliff Bleszinski, took time to recall his memories with the IP, talk about how development has been going and how the first idea behind the third-person game was born. And among the only curious facts, the first attempt to go to the big screen was talked about, implying that if a certain detail is allowed, fans are going to hate the adaptation.
The trigger for the film not being approved was that the producers wanted to make a family product, completely removing the violence and rudeness that characterizes the saga, and that has always been a key element in the games, the producers refused for obvious reasons. Move the product forward. Wanted the rating to be PG-13 to get more bang for the buck, but it was at the cost of characters refraining from using a chainsaw to cut Lotus in half.
(FYI) Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War creator) says he turned down a proposed PG-13 version of the movie
“People wanted to see the chainsaw, they wanted to see the locust cut in half, and it would be rated R. [Executives] wanted to make a PG-13 version of it, and I… pic.twitter.com/Hs1Ddks8uX

Here’s what Cliff himself mentioned:
Hollywood at the time had that scale where if there was blood and it was rated R, they thought they wouldn’t make enough money. Especially if you have a lot of CGI, big sets and stuff like that. They wanted it to be a PG-13 version, and I was like, “No, screw it.”
Fortunately, the future looks encouraging for the franchise, as has been the case for previous years Netflix, which is expected to largely preserve the classic elements of the series. Not much else is known since the confirmation by the streaming platform. So wait for the news.

Editor’s note: If they take the violence out of Gears of War, they’re going to look like Marvel, ie, they’re just going to tell bad jokes for no apparent reason. So, better to have nothing than something that robs the essence of such a beloved Xbox franchise.
